Memorial Day 2015
Memorial Day 2015 was another opportunity for us to come together and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us.
The Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs hosted the Memorial Day 2015 Ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, in North Little Rock.
This event annually honors all men and women who served in the Armed Forces that are no longer living and recognizes the sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price for freedom and their families left behind.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson presented the keynote address, and the Arkansas National Guard’s 106th Army Band performed.
France Honors WWII Veteran
Harold Kendrick, World War II veteran, was honored with France’s most prestigious accolade on Monday at the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs’ Memorial Day ceremony. He participated in the 1944 D-Day mission in Normandy as part of the 437 troop carrier command. On Monday, he received the French Legion of Honor, the country’s highest distinction.
Watch video coverage from KARK for more about Mr. Kendrick’s honor. Immediately following the ceremony, the Arkansas Veterans Coalition hosted its annual picnic at Sherwood Forest. The picnic is always free and open to the public.
We would like to say thank you to all the volunteers that made this year’s program so memorable and touching. Share your pictures and thoughts on our Facebook page. Please make plans to share Memorial Day with us next year.
